Lop Sao and Punch

In the second image above you can see the lop sao or pull and punch, half complete. For demonstration purposes I've shown the lop sao without a simultaneous attack. In the third image you can see the completed lop sao with a punch. The lop sao or pull/jerk is an excellent self defense technique. Whenever an opponent threatens you or gets too close with his arms up, you can yank his lead arm down to prevent him from striking you or blocking your attack. It can be done in combination with a variety of kicking and striking techniques.

Lop Sao and Groin Kick Lop Sao and Punch

In the images above you can see the lop sao used in combination with a kick to the groin, followed by a palm to the head. Notice that the hard pull puts your opponent's weight on his lead leg making it very difficult for him to defend against the groin kick, and continuing the lop sao for the palm strike stops your opponent from blocking it too.

Check out our Wing Chun trapping video for more tips on the lop sao.
