Self Defense Weapons ![]() "Defang the snake" principle being used in stick vs. stick and shoe vs. knife. In Hertao we classify weapons in the following way: 1. Short Blunt (wrench, hammer, flashlight) 2. Long Blunt (stick, bat, crow bar) 3. Short Sharp (pocket knife, broken bottle) 4. Long Sharp (machete, sword) 5. Projectile (gun, pepper spray) 6. Linked (chain) The use of short blunt and sharp weapons is similar in many ways, as is the use of long blunt and sharp weapons. Projectiles are in a class of their own, and linked weapons behave similar to blunt weapons with some variations. In Hertao we learn to use weapons for two reasons. First, a weapon gives you a great advantage, and in self defense you want every advantage you can get. Second, even if you don’t carry a weapon or find one in your environment, learning to use them goes a long way in learning to defend against them. If you can’t use a weapon effectively against your training partner, how is he or she going to learn to defend against it properly? |
