The "Smack and Hack" is one of my favorite techniques used as an entry to blast. The smack prevents the attacker's jab and the lowered head protects from a rear hand shot. The hack alone can often drop an attacker, and there are a great many effective follow-ups from the resulting position. Be sure to drive the attacker back with a step through, after the initial hack.
