Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Techniques

The techniques below are by no means complete in scope by pure Brazilian Jiu Jitsu standards. However, in my view the following techniques are more than sufficient for self-defense. What seperates an advanced practitioner from a beginner in any martial art is the ability to execute basic techniques properly and at the right time. The following positions, escapes, and techniques cover the basics of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. With the addition of striking and "dirty tactics" they will stand up to the vast majority of fighters.

Ground vs. Stand Up

The Guard (Basic)

Basic Escapes from Mount

1. Buck and roll (arm and foot control)
2. Buck, squeeze, and roll, w/ biting

1. Stand up with groin punch
