Shoulder Roll
The shoulder roll is a basic boxing technique that can be used against any punch. In Hertao we generally begin working the roll against a cross. It's done by simply rotating and shifting your weight to your back foot, while dropping your front hand/arm to protect your ribs and keeping your chin down/shoulder up to protect your face. (You can see the roll in video on the boxing page.)

The shoulder roll can be followed by a return high cross if the opponent has ended his attack, or with a variety of options if he continues to strike. A couple of good counters after the shoulder roll are the drop and low cross, sidestep and hook, and the drop and low jab.
